Insurance Alternatives Task Force Update >

The Office of the Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will reconvene the Insurance Alternatives Task Force in mid-January at the Lutheran Center in Chicago to review a recent proposal to insure the ELCA’s 10,500 congregations under a single program.   “I am encouraged by this recent news,” said Bishop Edward R. Benoway. “Many of our congregations have been faced with extremely difficult financial circumstances as a result of the skyrocketing insurance costs. We need to take action now for the sake of continuing mission in the world.”    READ MORE

IN THE NEWS

> Pastor Wally Meyer and Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran was featured in the Faith and Values section of The Tampa Tribune on October 20. The article reported on the congregation's Americana Music Service and on Pastor Meyer's ability to play the banjo during the service.

> Calvary Lutheran Church was featured in The Tampa Tribute on November 21. Recently, the congregation's trailer, which stored food for the congregation's food pantry, was stolen. After news of the theft reached the local community, new food items and support poured in to the congregation. Shortly after these events took place, another local congregation's food pantry at St. Giles Episcopal Church was set ablaze by an arsonist. Realizing that they had more than enough food and supplies to share, Calvary Lutheran sent 20 turkeys, 20 bags of food, and $1000 to help St. Giles.
