Synod Assembly Challenge: Contract requires 579 Room Nights

Key-note speakers, audio-visual requirements, workshops and workshop leaders, coffee breaks, elections, resolutions, meals, printing, committee reports, registration, receptions, exhibitors and display tables, worship and music…. Planning the Florida-Bahamas Synod Assembly each year is a momentous challenge, not least of which is contracting with a hotel that can accommodate the size of our gathering and our need for space, lots of it. In recent years, in order to adequately plan and prepare for the proceedings, the synod has needed to contract with a hotel three or four years prior to an actual Assembly.

An integral part of this contract is the number of “Room Nights” the Synod must commit to purchasing.  These “room nights” determine the total cost of an assembly, which is tens of thousands of dollars.  This year, at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate, the Florida Bahamas Synod is committed to purchasing a total of 579 room nights (based on projected need) just prior to, during, and right after our Assembly to offset the cost of ballroom, exhibition and meeting space. To date, congregations sending delegations (who have registered) have booked 137 room nights.

The voting members from each congregation are encouraged to register early for the Assembly and to make their reservations at our host hotel so that we will meet the “room night” requirement.  Though there are many hotels in the Orlando metropolitan area where one might find less expensive hotel rates, the financial obligation of the Florida Bahamas Synod to the host hotel remains.

Please know each voting member is welcome to extend his or her stay at the Omni World Resort prior to or after the Synod Assembly at the same nightly rate.  So, voting members, think about planning your family’s summer vacation at the Omni World Resort at ChampionsGate… a shuttle ride away from Orlando’s many great theme parks.
