Administrative Assistant
PERSONNEL POLICIES STATEMENT: The employees of this church, in
all of their services—both within the congregation and in the fulfillment of the
Church's mission in the world—shall carry out the duties to which they are
assigned in faithfulness to the faith and mission of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America.
TITLE: Administrative Assistant
REPORTS TO: Pastor or Business Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Administrative Assistant provides office services for members of the parish
staff and various other committees and boards. May supervise other secretarial
staff.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Functions as staff assistant to the Pastor and other designated staff in
planning, coordinating and implementing administrative services, projects and
events.
2. Analyzes and interprets data, develops and prepares reports.
3. May assist in the preparation and monitoring of budget.
4. Answers requests which require a detailed knowledge of the parish policies.
5. Composes non-routine correspondence.
6. Prepares and maintains parish records and highly confidential and sensitive
reports.
7. Attends and participates in staff meetings.
8. Supervises office support staff positions. Participates in the recruiting,
hiring, training and evaluating of office staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Active member of a Lutheran congregation. (Sometimes this requirement may be
satisfied by a person who has knowledge of and is willing to function in a
manner consistent with the mission of the Lutheran Church.)
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
3. Ability to prioritize work.
4. Knowledge of standard office practices and techniques.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. Three to five years of administrative experience.
7. Excellent organizational skills.
8. Business school training preferred.
9. Supervisory and office management experience preferred.
