Day Care Coordinator

 

PERSONNEL POLICIES STATEMENT: The employees of this church, in all of their services—both within the congregation and in the fulfillment of the Church's mission in the world—shall carry out the duties to which they are assigned in faithfulness to the faith and mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

TITLE: Day Care Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Pastor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Day Care Coordinator is responsible for day care program planning and implementation, program-to-parent liaison, supervision of one or more day care teachers and/or aides.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Develops educational/recreational activities appropriate to the age level of each child in day care.

2. Interviews and recommends hiring of teaching and service staff.

3. Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies and enrollment procedures.

4. Confers with teachers and/or aides regarding child’s behavioral or learning problems and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.

5. Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations.

6. Reviews and approves menu plans and food purchases.

7. Arranges medical attention for ill or injured children in accordance with parental instructions.

8. Oversees implementation of daily plans.

9. Oversees and/or prepares meals/snacks.

10. Handles acquisition and maintenance of day care equipment and materials.

11. Performs classroom teaching duties as appropriate.

12 Oversees and/or performs maintenance of all day care records according to applicable codes.


QUALIFICATIONS

1. Active member of a Lutheran congregation. (Sometimes this requirement may be satisfied by a person who has knowledge of and is willing to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Lutheran Church.)

2. Bachelor’s degree—must include 15 hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or human services.

3. A medical appraisal by a licensed physician (within three months prior to first day of work).

4. State police clearance.

5. Child care clearance.
