Maintenance Supervisor
PERSONNEL POLICIES STATEMENT: The employees of this church, in
all of their services—both within the congregation and in the fulfillment of the
Church's mission in the world—shall carry out the duties to which they are
assigned in faithfulness to the faith and mission of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America.
TITLE: Maintenance Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Business Manager or Pastor
POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Supervisor oversees and supervises all aspects of maintenance in
a safe and effective manner. Supervises Groundskeeper and Custodian. Requires
evening and weekend work. Exposure to climate change, uncomfortable temperatures
and fumes; work with machinery and equipment requiring considerable caution;
frequent lifting and standing.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. Instructs and monitors maintenance staff in general custodial tasks.

Trains and reviews employee performance.
2. Establishes daily work assignments.
3. Reviews and approves time sheet.
4. Supervises grounds maintenance including the cemetery.
5. Sets up facilities for events such as weddings, funerals, etc.
6. Maintains clean and safe environment in work area.
7. Works with volunteers as directed by Business Manager.
B. Maintains communication with appropriate persons.
1. Communicates parish personnel polices to maintenance staff.
2. Maintains channels of communication with Business Manager and Director for
Christian Education.
3. Verifies contractor activity.
4. Accompanies all inspectors (fire, health, insurance, EPA, etc.) on their
rounds.
5. Works with Property Committee as directed by Business Manager.
C. Performs as an operations technician.
1. Maintains buildings and equipment to provide effective
operations.
2. Performs routine repairs and obtains necessary certification if required.
3. Maintains open file of emergency systems; i.e., plumbing, electrical, fire,
sewage, underground tanks, etc.
D. Purchases supplies for maintenance as needed.
1. Maintains a cost-effective inventory of supplies within
budgetary guidelines.
2. Refers all supplier contracts to Business Manager as directed.
3. Verifies receipt and condition of supplies.
4. Attends seminars as requested by Business Manager or Congregation Council.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Three or more years supervisory experience in related field.
2. Previous maintenance experience.
3. Necessary mechanical skills.
4. Good interpersonal communication skills.
5. Ability to organize and prioritize time.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
7. Boiler certification desirable.
