Missional Leaders Institute 2012 Workshops

Workshops

Effective Evangelism --  The Reverend Steven E. Wigdahl

Staying Put for the Sake of Ministry -   What did I learn about Evangelism after 15 years serving a Utah congregation where 0.29% of the population is Lutheran?  Some parallels have occurred in the Florida context where I am now approaching the 13 year mark. I will share observations and highlight what needs to stay put for the sake of spreading the good news.

Effective Discipleship – The Reverend Doctor John D. Herman

How can we help nurture adults in the faith practices and life commitments of the baptismal covenant?  The strategy of discipleship groups and small groups will be presented as one helpful way toward a long term approach to spiritual growth for individuals and congregations.

Effective Congregational Growth – The Reverend P. Barry Hunteman

Missional approaches of growing congregations - connection points, targeting, balance, momentum and motivation.

Coaching Missional Leaders – The Reverend Dr. Johan A. Bergh

Tired of trying to improve your skills by attending conferences and workshops but in real life nothing changes? Missional Coaching is an intentional relationship with a trained coach for the express purpose of maximizing the church leader’s life and mission in doing what God has called them to do.  Learn about coaching:  how you can be a coach and/or get a coach and how coaching is a huge part of our renewal in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Mentoring Missional Leaders - The Reverend Ronald R. Lee

Confused about the difference between mentoring and coaching? Coaching is used when there is a well-defined goal that is based on improving skills and performance.  The relationship is peer-to-peer. Mentoring is valuable for career development and help with making decisions or facilitating problem solving. The relationship is from the seasoned leader to the person new to leadership.  This workshop will encourage participants to identify persons of promise and provide a process for mentoring or in seeking a mentor for one’s own personal growth.

Faithful Alternative Worship – The Reverend Jeffrey V. Linman and Mr. Jose Aenlle

This practical workshop will:

  • Offer a rationale for including contemporary Christian music in weekly worship.
  • Challenge the negative stereotypes about modern music by exposing participants to a variety of songs that have both stylistic and theological integrity
  • Share ways to inject contemporary vitality and style into some of the great hymns of the church without compromising their integrity. The workshop will also include some other tips on ways to faithfully breathe new life into weekly worship.

The Florida-Bahamas Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America expresses its gratitude to the Mission Investment Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for their generous financial support of this event.
