The Florida Bahamas Synod has had a church companionship with the Lutherans of Cuba for 6 years. The goal of this relationship is to build mutual understanding and support between the churches. Our objective is to gain understanding of church life under a Communist government, to support congregational ministry with children and youth in Cuba, and to learn how Christians evangelize, teach and worship in difficult conditions in this country.

The Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Cuba has invited the Florida-Bahamas Synod to send a team of representatives to participate in its conference "Recovering Primitive Christianity" and continuing work on the development of its communal sustainable farming project.
On February 18-24, 2010, a nine person Global Mission team from the Florida Bahamas Synod made a companion church visit to the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Cuba, Nueva Gerona, Isla de la Juventud. This team was led by Pastor Ron & Yvonne Will.
The team was to visit in October 2009 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Lutheran Church in Cuba; however, problems with the religious visas prevented their departure at that time. The anniversary also included a dedication of a memorial to Warren Lane, whose passion and vision for our global mission companionship sustained the relationship between the church in Cuba and the synod for many years.
The Lutheran church in Nueva Gerona continues to recover from the hurricanes of recent years. The ministry of the church has expanded and is involved in several sustainability projects, including clearing and farming a significant portion of land provided by the government.
