Biography of Bishop Edward R. Benoway

 

The Rev. Bishop Edward R. Benoway was elected third Bishop of the Florida-Bahamas Synod, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, in May 2001.  Born in Zanesville, Ohio, Bishop Benoway was raised and attended schools in Tampa.  He graduated from Newberry College and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.

 

Following his ordination in 1973, he served parishes in Winter Park, Florida; Tampa, Florida; Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Pompano Beach, Florida.  In January 2000, Bishop Benoway was called to serve as Assistant to the Bishop for Bishop William B. Trexler, until his election in May.

 

Bishop Benoway has served his church in local, regional, and Churchwide capacities.  His gifts include stewardship, evangelism, worship and youth ministry.

 

Bishop and Mrs. Linda Benoway live in Lutz, Florida.  They are also the parents of married children, Lisa, Steve, Chris, and Carrie, and proud grandparents of nine grandchildren.
