“What Makes Lutheran Worship Lutheran”

Dr. Quivik will be leading a workshop on the core principles of Lutheran worship and how they can be effectively applied in any context, style or setting.
Dr. Quivik has taught both liturgy and homiletics at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Her other teachings include life passages, baptism and initiation, the purposes of preaching, narrative and imagination, lectionary and the liturgical year.
Dr. Quivik obtained a BA in English Lit & Education from St. Olaf College, an MA in Philosophy of Education from Columbia University Teachers College, and a M.Div. from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and a Ph.D. in Worship, Proclamation, & the Arts from Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.
She was ordained in 1994 to Ministry of Word and Sacrament, ELCA. She served congregations in Montana and Minnesota and worked in numerous capacities within the Renewing Worship Project during the development stage of the ELCA’s Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal.
Some of her publications include “Ideas & Images for the Day” from Sundays and Seasons, Year A, “Re-Assembly: Participation as Faith Construction” in Centripetal Worship; Worship Matters, and “Renewing Worship: Preaching” in With the Whole Church (an ELCA worship study guide).
